2023 Genesis GV60 Specs Announced – 429 Horsepower, 0-60 in 4 Flat

2023 Genesis GV60 Specs Announced – 429 Horsepower, 0-60 in 4 Flat

By Edward A. Sanchez – Oct. 3, 2021

We’ve already seen the first photos of the Genesis GV60, the Hyundai Group’s E-GMP-based battery-electric crossover. While the “São Paulo Lime” color it was initially revealed in was a bit jarring to some for a premium vehicle, we remained fascinated by its packaging and some of the styling details of the midsize crossover. And now that we have a little more information about this particular BEV, we’re as intrigued as ever.

There will be a choice of 11 exterior colors, most of which are much more subdued than São Paulo Lime. Of course, being the car nerds that we are, we’re most interested in the drivetrain specs, and whether your driving tastes trend toward the relaxed or aggressive, there’s a flavor for everyone. The base models get a 168 kW (226 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) rear-wheel drive single-motor drivetrain. The non-Performance AWD model gets a combined output rating of 234 kW (314 hp) and 605 Nm (446 lb-ft) of torque. The Performance model is rated at a total output of 329 kW (429 hp) and 605 Nm (446 lb-ft), with a brief burst up to 360 kW (483 hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) in Boost Mode, which can provide that maximum output for up to 10 seconds at a time.

In Boost Mode, Genesis claims the GV60 Performance is capable of 0-60 in 4 seconds flat.

All models get the same 77.4 kWh battery pack. The range champ is obviously the standard-spec RWD model, with a rating of 451 km (280 miles). The non-performance AWD model receives a tentative rating of 400 km (249 miles), while the hot-rod Performance AWD model is rated at 368 km (229 miles).

While none of these ratings are yet official per the EPA, it seems Genesis is going by the EPA range estimation guidelines, rather than the notoriously optimistic WLTP ratings. These range ratings are reasonably competitive, but perhaps a tad on the low side for the AWD Performance model. We’ll know for sure once the GV60 gets tested and certified by the EPA.

But to prove the GV60 isn’t just for leisurely interstate cruising, the Performance model also includes Drift Mode.

Other available features include an active suspension system dubbed “Preview Electronic Control Suspension” or Preview ECS, which utilizes data from the navigation system and front camera to make predictive decisions on shock absorber damping for optimal comfort. All-wheel-drive models feature a driveshaft disconnect system for the front motor to improve overall efficiency.

Like its E-GMP stablemates, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, the G60 also gets a 400V/800V charging architecture, as well as the capability for 350 kW highspeed charging. Likewise, it also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging, allowing owners to run small appliances or other household electrical items while camping, or in the event of a home power outage.

For audiophiles, an optional 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system is available with four sound “moods” – Relax, Energetic, Bright, and Warm.

Drivers can also select an ambient audio driving sound for the car, adjustable through the infotainment display. Although the official release does not specify whether this feature can be turned off completely, based on video reviews we’ve seen of the Ioniq 5 and EV6, it appears that it can.

In terms of size, the GV60 is 4,515 mm (177.8 inches) long on a 2,900 mm (114.2 inch) wheelbase, making it 4.7 inches shorter than the Ioniq 5’s 182.5-inch overall length. Its wheelbase is 3.9 inches shorter than the Ioniq 5, which makes the GV60’s wheelbase the same as the EV6. The EV6 is the longest of the E-GMP crossover trio with an overall length of 184.3 inches, however.

Pricing and an on-sale date for the U.S. was not officially announced, although it’s expected to reach U.S. shores sometime in 2022.

Armchair-quarterbacking on pricing, we’re going to guess RWD models will start in the mid-high $40,000 range, with the Performance AWD model starting in the high $50,000s or low $60,000s.
